DIET FOR LONG LIFE

DIET FOR LONG LIFE

It's no surprise that people want a miracle pill that allow them to live longer. And of course, wanted to look younger, that's why cosmetic surgeries are so popular. We don't need miracle pill the only way to a longer life is through a healthy lifestyle. Choosing the right food is one of the most important factors of a healthy lifestyle, but this is often easier said than done because the food choices are often elusive.

Recent studies, however, have shown that the Mediterranean diet is a good one to follow. According to an eight-year population based study in Greece published in the British Medical Journal, the Mediterranean diet has certain components that contribute to low mortality. They even went so far as to analyze the percentage effect of each:

. moderate consumption of alcohol (23.5 percent)
. low consumption of meat (16.6 percent)
. high consumption of vegetables (16.2 percent)
. high consumption of fruits and nuts (11.2 percent)
. High monounsaturated-to-saturated lipid ratio (10.6 percent)
. high consumption of legumes (9.7 percent)

The researchers discovered that people who did not observe the components of the Mediterranean diet had a higher mortality. This means that these lifestyle choices have an enormous effect on your longevity, especially:

. drinking moderate amounts of alcohol-that's five small glasses of wine (10 grams to less than
50 grams) a day for men and half of that for women
. eating less meat while consuming lots of vegetables
. eating fruits and nuts
. using olive oil

To get full effect of the Mediterranean diet, It's important to observe all of this components rather than choosing one or two. It is the overall effect of a healthy diet that can lead to a longer life.
